BlackBerry Working on Rollout Issues of BBM For Android and IOS - The Canadian smartphone maker is struggling in a market where it had remained dominant for a number of years. The company is attempting to stabilize itself by using one of its most popular product as a weapon; BBM. This is the BlackBerry Messenger, which was a key feature of the once-coveted BlackBerry smartphones. The company had announced that it would be introducing an app of BBM for smartphones based on Android operating system and the iOS. However, this much-awaited global rollout was halted by the company and it cited technical issues for this move. The BBM launch had been set for last weekend, but had been botched.

The company stated that its team is working non-stop to fix the issue and would be providing people with an update very soon. The new rollout of the BBM app for Android and iPhone had begun on schedule on Sunday, September 22nd. It had started from New Zealand and was also available to Indian users. However, the app availability on Android was being delayed constantly. It had been scheduled to arrive on Saturday, September 21st on the Google Play Store. After 12 hours of the availability time of BBM for Android had elapsed, the company made an announcement on its official BlackBerry blog called inside BlackBerry.

The company said that the delay was to be blamed onto an unreleased version of the app of BBM for Android that had been posted online. The Canadian manufacturer stated that although the official Android app had not been launched, there were already 1.1 million active users in the first 8 hours only. The company asserted that it was the eagerness of the users to get BBM on their non-BlackBerry smartphones that gave rise to the issues. The post of the company said that the unreleased version had created some problems and they were being addressed.

Therefore, the company said that the unreleased application for Android was being disabled and it was currently stopping the global rollout of BBM for the iPhone and Android. However, those people who had downloaded the unreleased BBM application on their iPhone from the Apple App Store would be able to continue using it. The availability of the app has been put on hold until further notice is received, but BlackBerry hasn’t announced a new date of availability. In addition, the company also reassured its BlackBerry users and stated that their BBM service remained unaffected.

The launch debacle of the BBM is the recent one of the long list of woes of the company. The Waterloo-Ontario based company announced that because of its ballooning stockpile of unsold Z10 devices, it was expecting to book a write down that’s nearly $1 billion. The company had been betting on the device to revive the struggling company, but the Z10 was unable to gain traction in the market where Samsung and Apple are dominating. Over the last 12 months, the company has been reducing its workforce and will continue to do so. As per company evaluations, around 3.7 million devices have been sold in the second quarter of this year.
